Electronic cigarettes (otherwise known as E-cigarettes, E-cigs, or personal vaporisers) first appeared in the early 2000’s and have recently exploded in popularity as cigarette smokers in their millions switch to a smarter alternative.
E-cigarettes simulate the act of smoking a traditional tobacco cigarette, however rather than producing smoke, they emit an odourless vapour which dissipates in seconds. There is no burning, no ash and no bad smells.
How do Electronic Cigarettes Work?
The most popular models of e-cigarettes are normally made up of two components; a rechargeable battery and a pre-filled cartridge (otherwise known as a cartomizer).
When a user inhales on the cartridge, this activates the battery circuit and power is supplied to a small atomizer within the cartridge. The atomizer heats the e-liquid (also contained within the cartridge) and a smooth, cool stream of vapour is produced.
Why do some Electronic Cigarettes Look Different to Others?
As growth drives innovation, there has been many variations to the original e-cigarette design. The earliest models featured a 3 piece design however, the latest models, such as the BLACKHAWX E-cigarette combine the atomizer and cartridge into one single component which is much more user friendly.
There are also complex, ‘enthusiast’ devices available which are much larger than e-cigarettes and require the e-liquid to be manually refilled.
